Ed Koch, the Garage Inventor

Mayor Ed Koch

I have spent hours today trying to find evidence of something I heard on 1010 WINS all-news radio in New York. Yes, I listen to the CBS station when I am in Miami. There is an app for that.

The radio broadcaster who was one of the first to announce the death of Mayor Ed Koch on WINS this morning also said that most people didn’t know it but the Mayor was an inventor of some auto technology and actually patented it.

I was delighted when I heard a little peace of trivia because I thought that was going to be a great topic for DigiDame. A few hours later I started to search for the story. I found nothing. I kept searching. Still nothing. I asked others to search. They found nothing.

We looked through every Ed Koch obit we could find. There was no mention of a gadget or a patent. I know the broadcaster said it. I am sure of it. We even searched the radio station’s website. Nothing.

If you know something about this, or find it in a search, can you let me know? In the meantime, we will miss you Ed Koch. You certainly were Mr. New York.

  1. Lois,
Ed Koch became a film critic for Bloomberg TV. Check out his 11/04/09 film review of “The Invention of Lying” I found on You Tube.
Maybe the newscaster on 1010 read the word”Inventor” and that is where the confusion arose. Obliviously..that would be why it wasn’t mentioned again.
The You Tube of Ed Koch reviewing the film is typical Koch style! Love it!
