Two Generations Later and I Am Still Going Strong (poo, poo, poo)

A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life. ~Muhammad Ali

At home I am a nice guy; but I don’t want the world to know. Humble people, I’ve found, don’t get very far. ~Muhammad Ali

It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief. And once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen.
~Muhammad Ali

I first met Muhammad Ali about two or three years after we started our PR agency. That was 35 years ago. I hired him to do work for one of our clients, BSR (USA), the largest turntable manufacturer at the time. Boy, is that dating me!

He was amazing and very easy to work with. At one of the events we produced, he gave my mother (who attended) a big hug and held her hand. He walked her around the party room and all of the paparazzi snapped away. It was one of those moments that you just can’t describe but you want to last forever.

Fast forward to 2013. I find out that we will be working with Laila Ali, Muhammad Ali’s, multi-talented daughter, who has developed her own line of hair appliances. She is also a professional boxer, an author, TV personality, motivational speaker, actress, fashion designer, beauty product creator, wife and mother. Whew! Who thought that when Muhammad Ali first showed me a picture of his little girl in diapers that I would be working for her one day too.

At 85, I hope I get to work with Laila Ali’s son. That is the goal. I know, I am crazy.

  1. Wow, she is just stunning! And what a story of working with generations. My family has similar photo of my mother, from one of my father’s broadcast conventions, hugging WWF wrestler Sargent Slaughter. She looks like a different breed of human next to him, kind of like your mother with Ali. She had the photo taken because my sister was a huge WWF fan. My mom was a good sport that way. We’ve all laughed over the years at the picture.
