Even though I have consistently told everyone that more and more people are working from home or other remote locations, the new CEO of Yahoo wants to change all that. In a memo that was distributed to all employees on Friday, Marissa Mayer said that as of June everyone will be required to work at company headquarters.

How crazy is that? No one can figure out what prompted Mayer to make this decision. The press reports over this weekend said most employees were freaking out when they heard the news.

I find the decision in complete contradiction to the whole hoopla surrounding Mayer’s appointment as CEO. Mayer made headlines a few months ago when the Yahoo Board picked her during the seventh month of her pregnancy. Mayer worked from home before and after the birth of her child.

I tried to find out why that decision was made but no one on Twitter answered me. I am bringing up this topic to you because I spent the last year telling everyone over 50 that remote offices are perfectly acceptable. Then Mayer lowered the boom.
