Everyday my friend Ben sends me very nasty emails about President Obama. He is fuming that he was re-elected. He blames everything that is going wrong in the world on him. This week was the worst. When Ben saw the first lady appear on the Oscars, he wanted to do one of two things: throw up his dinner or throw his remote control through the TV set. I read every word of his emails because here is a guy who is very involved in technology, is a mentor to many young tech entrepreneurs, has held very high positions at both large and smaller companies, has traveled the world, has recommended our PR agency to many accounts, and is actually a big teddy bear to anyone who really needs his help. Yet, he wakes up every day and is pissed because Romney lost.
I am just like him. I can’t let go. When something irks me, I think about it just before I fall asleep and then again when I wake up. I toss it over and over in my mind. I reenact scenarios in the shower. I do my best telling off while the hot water is pouring down my back. I thought as I got older this nonsense would go away. I think it is getting worse. I can relate to Ben’s frustration. Then I just read stories about Richard Schulze finally ending his pursuit to buy back Best Buy, Andrew Mason leaving Groupon, the company he started, and Mitt Romney agreeing to appear on FOX News this Sunday to tell us all about what it feels like to get off the roller coaster.
This whole “moving on” thing is very complicated but these three guys seem to know the upside of “change.” I am eager to hear what Romney has to say. I saw upcoming clips of it, which I included below. Behind that well-known smirk, there is probably some good advice. I need, I want, to learn it.
