Hollywood is stunned. This has never happened before. Will it ever happen again?
I am referring to the fact that the movie version of the CW TV show Veronica Mars just got funded through Kickstarter in 12 hours. This is history in the making.
Creator Rob Thomas used the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to help him raise the $2 million he needed to fund the film. He did it in just one day. This is unheard of.
Thomas was crushed six years ago when CW cancelled Veronica Mars, a sleuth drama starring Kristen Bell as the modern-day Nancy Drew. I personally didn’t love the TV series, but boy did I love reading all of the Nancy Drew books during my teen years.
Apparently, Veronica Mars had a huge fan base despite its low ratings, because Kickstarter said this was their most successful fund-raising project ever.
Hollywood is going crazy because this may be the start of something new in the movie business.
