A Photographic Memory May Be in Your Future

memoryI can remember so many times when I was jealous of people who had a photographic memory. They would look at something once and remember it forever. Today, I just pray that I keep my wits about me for as long as I am alive. So many of my friends are so worried that they are going to get some form of dementia. It freaks them out to the point that sometimes it is the main topic of our discussions.

There is a new drug under development that could give us perfect visual memory. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we still can’t get dementia, but a photographic memory could probably help us in soon-to-be-determined ways. A group of Spanish scientists/researchers isolated a protein that is called the RGS-14. It is a mega-booster that can help us remember what we see. Google it to learn more. It is currently in the animal testing stage, and the results so far are outstanding. The memory-enhancer only works on visual memory, so get ready to take a mental picture of a page of text, a map, a piece of art, recipes, manuals. Once it is in your brain, it stays there forever.

I learned about this on a number of tech sites and was immediately attracted to the story because of everyone’s memory concerns. The RGS-14 could be good or bad news depending on your circumstances. Some parts of our lives we want to forget: a parking ticket, a rejection letter, a not-so-great medical report, or expensive monthly bills. There may be times when it is just more appropriate to go into denial.

Time will tell.
