Nick Negroponte, founder and Chairman Emeritus of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Media Lab, has been predicting for decades that our fingers will one day have tiny digital devices imbedded in them so we can point toward a door and it will open.

The future may be here sooner then we originally thought. Now the geniuses at Microsoft are working with a researcher at Carnegie Mellon University’s Human-Computer Interaction Institute to develop an innovative new interface that turns our bodies into a control surface.

Called “Skinput,” the system consists of an armband-mounted video projector and a series of bio-acoustic sensors. Due to variations in skin, muscle, and bone density, the sounds captured by these sensors can be used to determine where on the user’s arm a given tap was made.
