Diane von Furstenberg and Barry Diller I find it interesting that Barry Diller, husband of Diane von Furstenberg, is putting the royal screws to a company he headed up for eight years. Diller served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of FOX from 1984 to 1992. He was responsible for the creation of Fox Broadcasting Company in addition to FOX’s motion picture operations. Aereo, a start-up backed by Diller, is offering consumers a way to get free network TV over the Internet. You can view the TV programming on any device and on demand. Yesterday News Corp warned that FOX may pull programming off the free public airwaves and make it available only to paid cable subscribers. They are not going to put up with any nonsense from Aereo. Most of the networks say Aereo is violating their copyrights and distributing programming illegally. Diller is also the Chairman and Senior Executive of IAC and the Chairman and Senior Executive of Expedia, Inc. IAC is a leading media and Internet company comprising more than 150 brands and products, including Match.com, Ask.com, CollegeHumor, and CityGrid Media. The Aereo saga is going to be an interesting story to watch. New digital technologies are very disruptive to traditional businesses. We heard this before. Read more about Aereo here.
