Apple Revolutionizes a New Category

Both iWatches are a mere speculation.

Notice I didn’t say that Apple was inventing a new category. They don’t necessarily invent anything, but rather make a category more intuitive, user-friendly, extremely productive, and important.

This weekend the tech press was speculating that Apple will shortly be introducing a smart wristwatch featuring a curved glass. No one knows what iPhone features will be on the iWatch, but one thing is for sure, it will be a complete communications center.

If you would have asked me my opinion about re-inventing the wristwatch a few months ago, I would have said zzzz. Now it all makes sense. I was recently thinking about not wearing a watch anymore because, as I am getting older, I want less weight around my neck and arms. Wristwatches are kind of superfluous because we all look at our smartphones all day long anyway.

Giving a new purpose to the wristwatch may be just what Apple needs to get the industry bullish about them again.

Tick tock, tick tock.

  1. Now I understand why all the fashionistas have been going large on watches. I happened to be watch shopping this weekend and complained that they were all too big. Now I get it. They’re breaking us in for what’s next. Then the move from the iphone you strap on your wrist to the one you’ll have implanted there will be that much easier. It wasn’t all that long ago that tattoos were all but a lost art. The day is coming when everything we need will be part of us.
