Travel Writer Gets the Boot

This story is about a travel blogger who was thrown off a recent United Airlines flight on its way to Istanbul because he snapped a few pictures inside the cabin. The airplane was still on the ground. His tale is so frightening that it got retweeted hundreds of times on Twitter yesterday.

I want to take this opportunity to complain about a quasi-related topic. Recently, I’ve observed a number of pilots on American Airlines who find it necessary to stand and chat with the First Class flight attendants when they should be in the cockpit. This all takes place when they take their bathroom break.

I find it very disconcerting that pilots stand behind the food service cart in the First Class cabin for an extended period of time before returning to the cockpit. I really want to scream out, “Okay buddy, back to your protected area. Why are you standing there totally exposed to the entire airplane filled with passengers?”

It upsets me that pilots take foolish chances. I really wanted to snap some photos during our last few trips to Miami to document this lackadaisical behavior.

Why am I the only one unnerved by pilots who put everyone in harm’s way by not being behind protective barriers?
