Rumors that Cher died on April 8th were a Twitter blunder. Margaret Thatcher died last Monday. However, when some Twitter users used the hashtag #nowthatchersdead (now Thatcher’s dead) to let others know about the British Prime Minister’s death, it was misread by loyal Cher fans (now that Cher’s dead) who freaked. Hundreds of thousands went into instant mourning.

For those of you who do not use Twitter, let me remind you that the hashtag # is used on Tweets so that everyone talking about the same topic can search for comments on the subject. This is usually a very civilized format.
