The Next (Big) Step in Portable Music Players

By now, many people have portable music players. They are better known as MP3 players. Music lovers use MP3s while they exercise, take long trips on airplanes and trains, drive in a car, are in
between appointments, and just relax. They are a wonderful invention.

What you don’t know is that most audiophiles (true sound aficionados) don’t consider the sound quality of MP3 players to be very good. In fact, many believe that the music has been distorted so much that no one is really hearing studio sound. Enter Astell&Kern AK 100. This is the first high definition portable music player.

My agency, HWH PR, is involved in the introduction of this unit. We demoed it to the music world at the New York Audio Show this past weekend. I was thrilled when many audio journalists (Absolute Sound, Stereophile) said the AK100 was the most exciting product at the show. One of the reasons for that is because the AK100 is pioneering a new achievement in portable sound. Many of us have big speaker systems at home that help us achieve the best sound possible. Now, we can take that quality on the road with us.

Oh, you want to know price? A mere $700.00.

Watch the video for a super great demo from B&H Photo.

At Least 3 Dead, 111 Injured

The terror attack at the Boston Marathon reminds us all of how vulnerable we are no matter where we live. The minute I heard the news, I emailed my girl friend Barbara O’Connell who lives in Boston with her husband Frank, a client of mine several times over, to see if they were safe.

She immediately emailed back, “It’s like 911 all over again.” Thoughts of the day flashed in my brain instantly. We all felt so confused, isolated, and on-the-outside looking in. Most of us turned on our TVs to learn more about what was going on. Continue reading

Weiner Interrupted

Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner

Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner

If you work in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, you’ve probably seen Anthony Weiner (the former New York congressman who disgraced himself in a Twitter scandal a few years ago) having lunch on the terrace of the popular hot spot Almond Restaurant on East 22nd Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South.

I have been wondering since the beginning of last summer why he hangs out there so much since there are a hundred or so restaurants in the area. An article in the New York Times finally spelled it out. His brother Jason owns the restaurant. Continue reading

He’s Baaaack!

Korea is in the news again, but not for the reason you are thinking. South Korean K-Pop star Psy is back again. After scoring 1.5 billion hits on YouTube for his internationally-known “Gangnam Style” video, the zany singer is debuting his new song “Gentleman.”

The whole world is watching to see if Psy can duplicate his one-of-a-kind accomplishment.

We talked about this before, but leave it to Google to come up with a solution for taking care of our personal digital content after we die.

Defying the Demographics

20130413-230252.jpg

My career may have been saved today by another 60-year-old-plus woman. Maybe she was even in her 70s. All I know is that I got a renewed respect for myself at the Audio Show today when a senior gal showed up to test the high definition portable audio player my client Astell&Kern was introducing.

Joan Rivers Is an Internet Pioneer at 78

Joan Rivers is proving that you don’t have to be a 21-year-old kid to be famous on the Internet. In just a few short months, Joan’s show, In Bed With Joan, is becoming one of the most popular online talk shows. Of course, being vulgar helps draw a crowd.

A Birthday Celebration

20130412-233503.jpg

Guess where I am? Right after work, we drove out to Hampton Bays to meet my brother Steve and sister-in-law Susan to celebrate his birthday, a biggie. Susan and Steve love The Inn Spot, a gourmet restaurant and Inn that sits right on the bay, a short walk from the ocean.

Look who is still pitching after all these years

A year ago April 13th, I started DigiDame. I want to thank all my loyal readers who have stuck by me. I really appreciate your support. Thank you.

I want to give a special thanks to Susan Leigh Babcock who proofs my copy, sometimes In the wee hours of the morning. She does the best she can with carefree me. It’s not easy trying to edit someone who changes copy several times after posting, and so late in the day. Or night. Thank you, Susan.

Kiss the PC Goodbye

20130411-215316.jpg

I think it’s becoming pretty apparent to everyone that the PC as we know it will not be around. Reuters just reported that personal computer sales fell 14 percent in the first three months of 2013, the biggest decline in two decades. The pubic is favoring tablets. That also means that Microsoft Corp’s new Windows 8 system is not reaching its goals.
