The Story of Purim and The Book of Esther

To help celebrate Purim, Rabbi Marc Philippe, and Rebbetzin Valerie, of Temple Emanu-El of Miami Beach, Fl, just produced the most creative and informative animation about the festive holiday.

Together they wrote the script, created the digital characters and background environments, did the voiceovers, and handled all of the post production themselves.

Now they want to share this YouTube production with the world.

Steve Jobs

Larry Luckinbill, Tony award–nominated actor, playwright, and director for television, film, and the theater has done it again. Larry has a new book. If you want to interview him, let me know.

By Laurence Luckinbill; Adapted by Eryck Tait

“Teddy Roosevelt roars, fumes, and looks back on his life and family in this graphic version of Luckinbill’s one-man stage show Teddy Tonight…. It’s a vivid picture of Teddy at his most admirable…and prescient.” —Kirkus Reviews

Teddy is an excellent graphic biography that serves as a compelling reminder of why Theodore Roosevelt is considered one of the greatest US presidents.” —Foreword Reviews

A master storyteller of stage and screen, Laurence Luckinbill brings his remarkable abilities to bringing the lively Theodore Roosevelt back to life in this compelling graphic novel.” —Mark K. Updegrove, President & CEO of the LBJ Foundation and author of The Last Republicans: Inside the Extraordinary Relationship between George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush

“Imagine what this book alone … could do within classrooms…. Graphic novels such as Teddy could create a spark for learning thanks to presenting history through the unlimited potential in the medium that is comics instead of a beaten-up textbook that has been signed out to kids for the last 20 years.”

—Masked Library

Teddy is a personal look into probably the most iconic President to have ever held the office. The story by Luckinbill is extraordinary. The art by Tait is awe-inspiring. Altogether, Teddy is a graphic novel that makes this important historical figure both relatable and relevant.” —Graphic Policy

July 1918. Preparing to speak to an eager audience, 61-year-old Teddy Roosevelt receives the telegram that all parents of children who serve in war fear most: his son Quentin’s plane has been shot down in a dogfight over France. His fate is unknown. Despite rising fear for his youngest son, Teddy takes the stage to speak to his beloved fellow citizens. It is, he says, “my simple duty.” But the speech evolves from politics and the war into an examination of his life, the choices he’s made, and the costs of his “Warrior Philosophy.”

Overflowing with his love of nature, adventure, and justice, Teddy dramatically illustrates the life of one of America’s greatest presidents. His many accomplishments ranged from charging up San Juan Hill in Cuba as commander of the Rough Riders, to facing down U.S. corporate monopolies, to launching the Great White Fleet, building the Panama Canal, preserving hundreds of millions of acres of natural American beauty, and finally, to the vigorous life at Sagamore Hill and his immense pride in a beloved and rambunctious family.Teddy reveals how even the greatest of men is still just a man, and how even the most modest man can grow to be great.

Laurence Luckinbill was a cultural representative to the U.S. State Department in the 1960s and is an Emmy-winning, Tony Award–nominated actor, playwright, and director for television, film, and the theater.

Eryck Tait is a Brooklyn-based illustrator and designer. He is currently the manager of illustration for Ogilvy in Manhattan and resides in Bushwick with his wife, three cats, and one terrible dog.

The World We Live In

It’s Winter Again in the Northern Hemisphere. But This Year The World Has Gone Nuts

It snowed last night…

08:00 – I made a snowman.

08:10 – A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn’t make a snowwoman.

08:15 – So, I made a snowwoman.

08:17 – My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman’s voluptuous chest saying it objectified snowwomen everywhere.

08:20 – The homosexual couple living nearby threw a fit and moaned it could have been two snowmen instead.

08:22 – The transgender man/women…person asked why I didn’t just make one snowperson with detachable parts.

08:25 – The vegans at the end of the road complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.

08:28 – I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.

08:31 – The middle eastern bloke across the road demanded the snowwoman be covered up .

08:40 – The Police arrived saying someone had been offended but were not sure by what.

08:42 – The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snowwoman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.

08:43 – The council bylaws officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.

08:45 – TV news crew from CNN showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snowwomen?

I replied “Snowballs” and am now called a sexist.

09:00 – I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.

09:10 – I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.

09:29 – Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding I be arrested.

By Noon it had all melted – Global warming was blamed.

There is no moral to this story.
It is exactly what we have become…..all caused by Snowflakes.

Thank you Walter Salm for sharing this with us.

Studio Visits With Some Of Our Favorite Artists

As some of you know, I’m on the board of the Fountainhead Residency. The non-profit provides three artists, from all over the world, with a Miami remote studio, so they can create art away from their homes for a month. They also attend Miami art openings and talks, visit museums and galleries, and receive vital feedback from art professionals through one-on-one studio visits and public open houses.

Artists live communally in a 1950’s Miami Modern home flooded with natural light and the energy that comes with it. The home is located in the heart of Miami’s cultural community of museums, galleries, private collections, alternative spaces and performing arts venues.

Imagine Peyton Manning Living In A Retirement Village

You knew him as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Now you can see Peyton Manning living in a retirement community. It’s hysterical.

The following was sent to me by a friend. I can’t verify the source, but I thought the developments were important enough to share. Let’s just cross our fingers that these are true.

The pride of the State of Israel is that its technologies will soon be able to be used by all humanity:

1. The University of Tel Aviv is developing a nasal vaccine that will protect people from Alzheimer’s and stroke.

2. Technion, Institute of Technology (Haifa), developed a simple blood test capable of detecting different types of cancer.

3. The Ichlov Center (Tel Aviv) has isolated a protein that makes colonoscopy unnecessary to detect colon cancer with a simple blood test. Colon cancer kills about 500,000 people annually.

4. Acne does not kill anyone, but it causes anxiety and dissatisfaction in teenagers. The Curlight Laboratory created a cure by emitting UV rays – high intensity, which eliminates the bacteria that produce acne without generating additional complications.

5. The Given Imaging Laboratory has developed a tiny camera in the form of pills that are swallowed and that transmit thousands of photos of the digestive tract. These high-quality photos (2 per second for 8 hours) can detect polyps, cancers, and sources of bleeding. The photos are sent to a chip that stores them and sends them to a computer. At the end of the process, the camera is eliminated by the rectum.

6. The Hebrew University (Jerusalem) has developed an electrical neurostimulator (batteries) that is implanted in the chest of patients with Parkinson’s, similar to a pacemaker. Emissions from this device block nervous signals that produce tremors.

7. The simple odour of a patient’s breath can detect whether a patient has lung cancer. The Russel Berrie Institute for Nanotechnology has created sensors capable of perceiving and registering 42 biological markers that indicate the presence of lung cancer without the need for biopsy.

8. It is possible to dispense with catheterization in many cases. Endopat is a device placed between the index fingers, which can measure the state of the arteries and predict the possibility of a heart attack for the next 7 years.

9. Bar Ilan University is studying a new drug that fights viruses by blood. It is called the Vecoy Trap because it tricks a virus into self-destruction. Very useful to fight Hepatitis, and in the future AIDS and Ebola.

10. It is possible that Israeli scientists at Hadassah Medical Center (Jerusalem) discovered the first cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as Lou Gehring’s Disease, in an orthodox rabbi. Stephen Hawking, a famous British scientist, suffered from this disease and to communicate he used methods invented by Israeli scientists.

As a reminder…

I know I have been critical of Trump, but it is only a couple things that bother me. President Trump wasn’t that bad, other than when he incited an insurrection against the government, mismanaged a pandemic that killed nearly half a million Americans, separated children from their families, lost those children in the bureaucracy, tear-gassed peaceful protesters on Lafayette Square so he could hold a photo op holding a Bible in front of a church, tried to block all Muslims from entering the country, got impeached, got impeached again, had the worst jobs record of any president in modern history, pressured Ukraine to dig dirt on Joe Biden, fired the FBI director for investigating his ties to Russia, bragged about firing the FBI director on TV, took Vladimir Putin’s word over the US intelligence community, diverted military funding to build his wall, caused the longest government shutdown in US history, called Black Lives Matter a “symbol of hate,” lied nearly 30,000 times, banned transgender people from serving in the military, ejected reporters from the White House briefing room who asked tough questions, vetoed the defense funding bill because it renamed military bases named for Confederate soldiers, refused to release his tax returns, increased the national debt by nearly $8 trillion, had three of the highest annual trade deficits in U.S. history, called veterans and soldiers who died in combat losers and suckers, coddled the leader of Saudi Arabia after he ordered the execution and dismembering of a US-based journalist, refused to concede the 2020 election, hired his unqualified daughter and son-in-law to work in the White House, walked out of an interview with Lesley Stahl, called neo-Nazis “very fine people,” suggested that people should inject bleach into their bodies to fight COVID, abandoned our allies the Kurds to Turkey, the city of Baltimore the “worst in the nation,” claimed that he single handedly brought back the phrase “Merry Christmas” even though it hadn’t gone anywhere, forced his Cabinet members to praise him publicly like some cult leader, believed he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, berated and belittled his hand-picked Attorney General when he recused himself from the Russia probe, suggested the US should buy Greenland, colluded with Mitch McConnell to push through federal judges and two Supreme Court justices after supporting efforts to prevent his predecessor from appointing judges, repeatedly called the media “enemies of the people,” claimed that if we tested fewer people for COVID we’d have fewer cases, violated the emoluments clause, thought that Nambia was a country, told Bob Woodward in private that the coronavirus was a big deal but then downplayed it in public, called his exceedingly faithful vice president a “p—y” for following the Constitution, nearly got us into a war with Iran after threatening them by tweet, nominated a corrupt head of the EPA, nominated a corrupt head of HHS, nominated a corrupt head of the Interior Department, nominated a corrupt head of the USDA, praised dictators and authoritarians around the world while criticizing allies, refused to allow the presidential transition to begin, insulted war hero John McCain – even after his death, spent an obscene amount of time playing golf after criticizing Barack Obama for playing (far less) golf while president, falsely claimed that he won the 2016 popular vote, called the Muslim mayor of London a “stone cold loser,” falsely claimed that he turned down being Time’s Man of the Year, considered firing special counsel Robert Mueller on several occasions, mocked wearing face masks to guard against transmitting COVID, locked Congress out of its constitutional duty to confirm Cabinet officials by hiring acting ones, used a racist dog whistle by calling COVID the “China virus,” hired and associated with numerous shady figures that were eventually convicted of federal offenses including his campaign manager and national security adviser, pardoned several of his shady associates, gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to two congressman who amplified his batshit crazy conspiracy theories, got into telephone fight with the leader of Australia(!), had a Secretary of State who called him a moron, forced his press secretary to claim without merit that his was the largest inauguration crowd in history, botched the COVID vaccine rollout, tweeted so much dangerous propaganda that Twitter eventually banned him, charged the Secret Service jacked-up rates at his properties, constantly interrupted Joe Biden in their first presidential debate, claimed that COVID would “magically” disappear, called a U.S. Senator “Pocahontas,” used his Twitter account to blast Nordstrom when it stopped selling Ivanka’s merchandise, opened up millions of pristine federal lands to development and intelligence briefings, blew off honoring American war dead in France because it was raining, redesigned Air Force One to look like the Trump Shuttle, got played by Kim Jung Un and his “love letters,” visited them, pressured the governor and secretary of state of Georgia to “find” him votes, thought that the Virgin islands had a President, drew on a map with a Sharpie to justify his inaccurate tweet that Alabama was threatened by a hurricane, allowed White House staff to use personal email accounts for official businesses after blasting Hillary Clinton for doing the same thing, rolled back regulations that protected the public from mercury and asbestos, pushed regulators to waste time studying snake-oil remedies for COVID, rolled back regulations that stopped coal companies from dumping waste into rivers, held blatant campaign rallies at the White House, tried to take away millions of Americans’ health insurance because the law was named for a Black man, refused to attend his successors’ inauguration, nominated the worst Education Secretary in history, threatened judges who didn’t do what he wanted, attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci, promised that Mexico would pay for the wall (it didn’t), allowed political hacks to overrule government scientists on major reports on climate change and other issues, struggled navigating a ramp after claiming his opponent was feeble, called an African-American Congresswoman “low IQ,” threatened to withhold federal aid from states and cities with Democratic leaders, went ahead with rallies filled with maskless supporters in the middle of a pandemic, claimed that legitimate investigations of his wrongdoing were “witch hunts,” seemed to demonstrate a belief that there were airports during the American Revolution, demanded “total loyalty” from the FBI director, praised a conspiracy theory that Democrats are Satanic pedophiles, completely gutted the Voice of America, placed a political hack in charge of the Postal Service, claimed without evidence that the Obama administration bugged Trump Tower, suggested that the US should allow more people from places like Norway into the country, suggested that COVID wasn’t that bad Wacko Window Washing

When we first moved into our Miami Beach condo, I was astonished to see how our windows were washed. I couldn’t believe window washers would put themselves in such danger. We live 36 stories up. The first video was taken the other day. The second one was 19 years ago. I get dizzy every time I watch them.
