Waiting For Apple Watch To Get Ripe

Many friends and family members keep asking me if I am going to get the Apple Watch. If someone gave it to me as a gift, I would certainly not refuse it. But if I have to go out and purchase it on my own, I’m pretty sure the answer would be “not yet.”

There are some amazing features in the Watch that I love, like using it as the key for your hotel guest room, but it’s just not enough to make me want to spend several hundred dollars for the least expensive unit. I’m sure that a half a year down the road, third party app developers will create something that will make me swoon.

In the meantime, read the ultimate review on the Apple Watch from one of the most astute tech writers in the business, Walt Mossberg, of Re/code

Yesterday’s News

Image from USA Today

Several people sent me emails yesterday regarding the rumor that the new AppleWatch  doesn’t mix well with tattoos. At first I thought that it was  crazy but then USA Today found this on the Apple website:

“Many factors can affect the performance of the Apple Watch heart rate sensor. Skin perfusion is one….Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.”

I wonder if this is really going to be an issue or is this another attempt to embarrass the largest company in the world? Industry experts say that it is possible that the darker colors on some tattoos could cause interfere with how sensors reads heart rates. The best thing to do is test the Apple Watch in the store before buying it.

Thursday Night Photos

We never saw an audience cheer as much as they did for this show. This is going to be a very long run.

A selfie before show time

Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family TV show along with husband  Justin Mikita were sitting in front of us.

Our friend Doug Denoff (with the baseball cap) produced the off Broadway Show 39 Steps. Let me know if you want to see it. Very enjoyable

Should You Buy An Apple Watch?

If you have been thinking about whether you should buy an Apple watch, I have the answer. The majority of tech reviewers agree that it is a technological wonder and they would love to own one. However, they don’t feel it’s an absolute necessity. (By the way, tech reviewers don’t get to keep their Apple review samples. They may get a press discount, but it’s still pricey).

Reviewes feel that it’s the most innovative smart watch ever, but there no remarkable features that you don’t have on your iPhone.

Ed Baig, tech editor at USA Today, quickly points out that there’s something special about eyeballing emails, text messages, incoming phone calls, etc. on the wrist of your hand rather than pulling your iPhone out of your pocket or purse.

Available on April 24th, you can preorder the Apple watch today. The online store actually opened 12:01am. Good luck trying to access the store. Millions are doing exactly the same thing. I’m going to wait a few weeks and read more about it before deciding which model I want.

The Apple watch comes in all kinds of flavors. They start at $349 and jump up to $17,000 for a 38mm 18-karat yellow gold model with a bright red buckle. The good news is that all of the watches, no matter what the price, have the same functions.

13 things to know about the Apple Watch

The $10,000 Gold Apple Watch Edition.

The headline I used for today’s post comes directly from CNN. I ripped it off because I really feel it will prompt you to read the story. It precisely lists all of the benefits that new Apple watch offers.

My brother emailed the story to me. I’m grateful because, for some reason, I have not paid attention to all of the hoopla. Now that I have read all about it, I definitely want one. There is not a feature on the Apple watch that I need, but it will certainly be fun to have people gather around me to see first hand what the noise is all about,

I did that to a friend’s friend who was one of first to own the Pebble watch. It was like watching Star Trek. The guy was so popular at the party, he never got to eat. Let’s face it, we are all fascinated by innovation. Most of the time we are disappointed by new introductions because they don’t really make our lives that much better.

In this case, I’m going to be thrilled that I am wearing a watch that is going to tell me my heart beats per minute and how many steps I made that day. I find it utterly fascinating that we live in a time when all this is possible.
