Start Your Own Magazine

It wasn’t that long ago that we all had printed pictures that we placed in photo albums. I used to spend hours each week looking at my photos.  I had a difficult time keeping the photos intact on the page as well as preventing them from fading, I was thrilled when everything went digital.

No more printed photos. I now keep all of my photos in my camera roll. The trouble is that I am now storing a few thousand photos and never scroll back to look at any of them.

That’s why I became intrigued with a new app called  Recently. It’s like going back to the future. Recently issues a monthly magazine featuring 100 of my best recent photos. Of course, I have to give Recently permission to review my camera roll.

Recently charges $9 a month.  If I want, I can manually select and  remove pictures before they get published. The paper magazine will be sent to me every month.

Say cheese!

Lightning In Your Living Room

Some folks really love thunder and lightning outside their window. They appreciate the booming sounds while reading a good book or watching TV. Stormy weather just makes you so grateful you are inside cozy and dry. It’s creates the most perfect atmosphere for loving your home more than ever.

That’s why designer Richard Clarkson invented an interactive light and speaker that makes you feel like you have a mini thunderstorm in your living room.

Watch the video to see just how real the storm cloud light makes you feel.

The lamp plays sounds and flashes a Philips LED light to simulate a real thunderstorm. The unit features  a Bluetooth speaker so you can sync the thunder flashes to the beat of the music. Scary but fun.

Get ready to part with some bucks if you are interested in buying the lamp. Retails at $3,360.

Smart Pillows

Smart this, smart that.

Everything we use today has to be “smart.” Now the smart technology has reached the pillow. I recently saw a demonstration of a smart pillow at eMerge, the Miami tech show.

The Chrona sleep system turns any pillow into a smart pillow. The Chrona technology is placed in a pillowcase so it can measure the movements of your head and torso. The companion app measures how well you slept and can also gently wake you up.

The company’s website explains the process.

“Chrona uses an accelerometer to measure your movements while you sleep. Its Bluetooth Low Energy module safely transmits data between your Smartpillow and smartphone. Chrona is energy-efficient, so you’ll be able to power Chrona for over a week with a single charge.”

Watch the video for a precise explanation.

Co-Founders Zimin Hang and Ben Bronsther teamed up with engineering students from Washington University in St. Louis to develop Chrona. Their company name is  Ultradia.
Expect to see more and more companies in this field. Many Americans are obsessed with how and when they sleep. They will do anything for a good night’s sleep. That sounds like big business to me.

Miami, The Next Tech Hub

I saw it for myself. Miami is destined to become a technology center. We attended eMerge Americas, a two-day technology event.

EMerge said, “The first day was filled with excitement as 13,000 attendees converged at the Miami Beach Convention Center for eMERGE 2016. Manny Medina, founder of eMERGE Americas, kicked off the event sharing his vision with the world of making Miami the next big information and tech hub with such an amazing event.”

The numbers:
+400 Companies Represented
110 Startups in the showcase

This is all good news for me. I hope to be involved in the growth of tech in Miami.

If You Had A Trust Issue?

A male friend of mine, age 78, recently confided that his wife is cheating on him. It was difficult at first for me to believe this because they have been married for over 50 years, are close with their children and grandchildren, have several homes, and travel extensively together.

The problem is that they moved into a fancy golf club community in Palm Beach, FL last year and things haven’t been the same since. As crazy as this seems, my friend feels his wife is cheating on him with one of the golf instructors.

That’s only the beginning. He wants to install a surveillance system in his home or hire a private investigator. I’ve been thinking about him for days. I don’t know if he is just losing his mind or this is a real situation. I certainly can’t ask his wife.

I feel so sorry for him. He is so depressed. I did learn about a new gizmo that could prevent anyone else from sleeping in his bed. I haven’t told him about it yet and may never get around to it. However, I will share it with you.

There is a mattress company in Madrid called Durmet that has a companion Smarttress app that tells you if there is motion on your mattress. The app sends a warning if there is repeated impact and the duration. So if my pal is out of his house for a few hours, he doesn’t have to worry about someone replacing him right in his own bed. He will get an alert that tells him everything he needs to know.

A Night Of Art And Music

Williams McCall Gallery drew record breaking crowds tonight for the opening of Expanse 3.0,  An Exploration Of The Uncharted Urban. The Astell&Kern AKT1 All In One Hi-Res Sound System was the featured guest. The crowd loved hearing high resolution quality sound for the very first time.

Photos That Make Me Think

Eliot and I just finished watching the Robert Mapplethorpe documentary on HBO. I started to think about my own photos or the ones of others that I altered. I probably take more iPhone pictures than the average person. Today I want to share some of the ones I edited with Pop Art and then I want to show some of the ones I was wowed by on Facebook or  Instagram.
