Doctors Orders

https://youtu.be/ALET3Fn9aHs

If you haven’t visited a hospital lately, please be advised, that you should wear a sweater, or even a snowsuit, when you enter the medical facility. It’s freezing in the waiting, patient, recovery and operating rooms.

Hospitals everywhere have lowered the temperatures of their interiors to prevent the spread of germs/viruses. Researchers have discovered in recent years, colder rooms provide more protection. That’s the good news.

The bad news is that patients who are wearing light weight gowns are suffering. They are so cold that they are shivering. Nurses offer as many blankets as they need, but anything less then four or five covers on top of a patient doesn’t seem to warm them up.

The good news is a company named 3M. I’m sure you have heard of them. They now make a portable heater that blows hot air under the patient’s gown. It’s name is the 3M Bair Hugger Heating System. You have to watch the video to understand how it works.

Progressive hospitals everywhere are using these new heat blowers for patients. TV personality Steve Greenberg, just had hand surgery today, at New York Presbyterian, and he said the new heating system was a great comfort. He is even considering buying a unit for cold winter nights in his New York apartment. You can laugh all you want. I bet you will be buying one too in the next year or two.

Deering Estate, Take Two

Here are the photos Eliot Hess took at Alex Nunez birthday party. We celebrated at the Deering Estate in Palmetto Bay, Fl. Watch the flight of migratory birds (Cormorants, Anhingas, and Ospreys) at sunset to safe haven trees ( to protect themselves from predators).

Our Take On CES 2020

CES 2020 — It’s the largest tech conference in the world and “Lying on the Beach’s”  Steve Greenberg and Lois Whitman-Hess were there checking out some of the latest high tech wonders. That was not an easy feat. In this case we should say “feet.” CES featured 15 miles of aisles with innovative products. It was like visiting a small city and touring every building. We tell you all about it.

Happy Birthday Alex

Eliot and I attended the most unusual birthday party ever. Our dear and talented friend, Alex Nunez, turned 36 today and invited friends and family to the Deering Estate in Palmetto Bay, Fl, to see the flight of migratory birds (Cormorants, Anhingas, and Ospreys) at sunset to safe haven trees ( to protect themselves from predators).

Alex is a painter, writer, photographer, videographer, musician, podcaster and DJ host ( I’m sure much more). She arranged for her guests to wear headsets so that she could narrate the journey of the birds while we listened to the mix of songs she created for the evening. It was totally awesome.

Everyone got into the swing of things immediately and started singing and dancing. The event was one-of-a-kind that reminds us that sometimes nature can do the entertaining.

The birthday girl was the MC and DJ.

Picture Perfect

This is a perfect kind of day. Ron and Andrea Hein and Lois and Eliot Hess visited the sculpture garden at the Raleigh Hotel today on South Beach. The hotel is being renovated but the exhibit is open till April.

The garden is an homage to late French husband-and-wife team Claude and Francois-Xavier Lalanne, also known in the art world as Les Lalanne. Francois, who died in 2008, and Claude, who died earlier this year, were known for their whimsical sculptures and installations.

Last month, a Sotheby’s sale featuring various pieces from the pioneering couple’s personal collection raked in a jaw-dropping $53 million.

The tropical garden is a “gift” to the community from new Raleigh owner/developer Michael Shvo, who bought the 79-year-old beachside hotel from Tommy Hilfiger in February for $103 million.

The surreal garden, designed by renowned architects Peter Marino (of Barneys fame) and local design star Raymond Jungles, will connect all three properties. The Raleigh, South Seas and Richmond.

Honored To Be Honored

It’s good to have friends in high places. Thank you Tony Monteleone and Nancy Klosek, the distinguished leaders of Dealerscope. I’m very lucky to have you both giving me such recognition. What an honor to grace the pages of your award winning publication. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Dean Morton Of Cathedral Of St. John The Divine Was A Close Friend

I worked very closely with Dean Morton for over 10 years. Our client, the late Len Marks, one of best entertainment litigators (clients: Paul Mc Cartney, Billy Joel, Elton John) and Jim worked on interfaith religious programs together. I handled all the PR, and yes, I was on a first name basis with all the celebs, as well as Richard Gere who attended a lot of the meetings we had with the Dalai Lama.

Those were the best days of my PR career. A 14 year stretch. Rest in Peace Jim. You and Len were two of the most progressive human beings ever.

Someone Sent Me A Love Letter At CES

Hi Lois,

Can’t cook / won’t cook / no time to cook? – For those that are culinary challenged or don’t have the time they’d like to devote to cooking, CookingPal has the answer. at CES.

“Julia” is an intelligent autonomous cooking system that makes delicious meals with minimal effort. You can see her in action here – http://bit.ly/2ru0hmy and full press materials and assets are below.

The system is comprised of a Smart Kitchen Hub (a dedicated voice-enabled tablet) that suggests meals and provides step-by-step guides to following recipes and a Smart Kitchen Appliance that handles every tedious element of prepping a meal from chopping and kneading to stirring and steaming, and best of all: it cleans up after itself!

All you have to do is place ingredients into her bowl when instructed and sit back and let Julia do the rest!

As well as taking the work out of meal prep – the system also helps with the decision making process too. Using its built-in camera and AI food recognition capabilities, it can suggest recipes you can make based on what ingredients are currently in the home and even automatically order missing items to be delivered from your favorite retailers to make future meals.

Just under $1,000. Available later on in 2020.
