I always feel left out when something new in tech is introduced and I don’t know anything about it. Then I feel worse when I open the various tech periodicals, sites, and blogs to see everyone writing about the new, exciting introduction. I feel like a secret society got together to get clued in and then did the pinky swear thing. No one talks about the new product in the press until the agreed upon date.
This is the time of year that the consistency of a matzoh ball is one of the main topics of discussions around the dinner table. You don’t have to be Jewish to be a connoisseur.

David Pogue, personal technology editor at The New York Times, posted something wild on his Facebook page yesterday. His fiancée was flying from San Francisco to NYC to meet him while he was flying from Salt Lake City to JFK. They were both landing at the same time. During his flight, David checked the position of his fiancée’s airplane. Yikes, he discovered that he could practically toss a bag of peanuts at her.
I couldn’t figure how he managed to track both flights on the same map so I finally emailed him. This is what I got back.
“I used flightaware.com. I superimposed the two flights in Photoshop.”
Love conquers all.

I don’t know what took me so long, but a few months ago I realized that the checkout aisle in supermarkets and drug stores no longer had the same meaning that it did for most of my life. I saw my future today. The younger generation is being warned that I may be taking a stroll on the same sidewalk where they walk and talk mindlessly on cell phones.
“Watch out for Lois! She is walking in your vicinity. Make sure you don’t knock her over.”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when I saw this sign on the boardwalk next to the boating docks behind my Miami condo.
There is an apartment building a few doors down that is dedicated to senior living. Seriously, this sign is a courtesy for them, but in a blink of an eye it will be for me.

I can remember so many times when I was jealous of people who had a photographic memory. They would look at something once and remember it forever. Today, I just pray that I keep my wits about me for as long as I am alive. So many of my friends are so worried that they are going to get some form of dementia. It freaks them out to the point that sometimes it is the main topic of our discussions.
