Barbra Streisand on Why Trump Must Be Defeated in 2020 (Column) – Variety

“I posted this on Facebook earlier today and it was shared by 30 plus followers.”

Is there such a thing as a successful business person who doesn’t have regrets and mistakes? I’m not talking about the low-life caliber of Trump. Writers used obits to bash Welch.

Our Neighbor

Dear Lois,

I am writing to a small group of friends and colleagues about my New York Times OpEd today, Big Pharma May Pose an Obstacle to Vaccine Development.

Today’s opinion piece is only a small slice of what I uncovered during the last few years of research for my upcoming book, PHARMA: Greed, Lies and the Poisoning of America. PHARMA is an investigative history of the American drug industry. It is packed with revelations from the opioid epidemic and the Sackler family to how companies game the system to charge exorbitant prices. Avid Reader Press will publish it on March 10.

The prepublication reception has been super. Kirkus calls it a “A shocking, rousing condemnation of an industry clearly in need of better policing.” LitHubselected PHARMA as one of its most anticipated books of 2020: “Posner has created a medical leviathan for our times.” Booklist calls it “an encyclopedic exposé. Explosively, even addictively, readable.”

Bestselling author of Dopesick, Beth Macy, says “I could not put down Gerald Posner’s Pharma, the definitive story of how one family, the Sacklers, set out to get exquisitely rich on the back of unsuspecting Americans—then blamed the so-called ‘abusers’ instead of their own highly addictive drug. Posner has unearthed important new material that illuminates our national tragedy, crafting a meticulously reported page-turner that is as juicy as it is clear-eyed.”

Trisha and I have been buried for five years in the world of pharmaceuticals. We are grateful to many people who helped us, especially at those moments when the project seemed insurmountable. We are both relieved that it is finally about to land on book shelves and its fate will be determined by critics and readers.

Check Events for information on upcoming bookstore and media appearances. And if you missed it, here is a video trailer for the book.

As always,

Gerald

Our Friend, Alex Nunez

We had a great Friday morning. Eliot and I visited the studio of Alex Nuñez, a multi-talented artist who paints, creates digital compositions, shoots and edits photo and video essays, and mixes music. If there is medium that allows you express yourself, Alex does it.

Her paintings are entirely spontaneous. We are very attracted to her free-form abstract markings that are underscored by splashes of bold, vibrant colors. If you look close enough, you can find a series of hidden references drawn from pop culture. Internet memes, song lyrics, tabloid fodder, and subliminal messages. Her creations are filled with surprises and provide lots of exciting vibes.

Apologize Lizzie

https://youtu.be/iXcVVHDgpjw

Lizzie, I find it offensive that you would compare Mayor Bloomberg to Trump. I’m asking you to apologize. You are exaggerating and desperate.

Dangerous Donald

Debates are supposed to be about the issues. The antagonist performance of Bernie, Amy, and EW toward Bloomberg is just more votes for what we are suffering with now. Bloomberg is a saint compared to this.

No Regrets

It was an absolute horror. A car fell off a Fisher Island Ferry in Miami yesterday, and into Biscayne Bay, around 5pm. Eliot looked out our windows and noticed that several coast guard boats were making a circle around a certain area of the bay and helicopters were hovering over the same point.

It didn’t take very long for our cell phones to start beeping with alerts about the tragedy. It was heartbreaking. This is a classic example of yet another accident that never should have taken place.

We don’t know yet what truly took place. (Watch the videos). However, I do feel that most people would have bet that this kind of accident never could have happened. I am so tired of people thinking we are all safe because someone of so-called authority took the right measures to protect us from potential disasters.

The next time you see something that you think is not as safe as it should be, speak up and get others to support you. There is just too many human errors these days. The barriers on the Fisher Island ferries always looked a little flimsy to me. We should have made more of a fuss about them. We regret that now.”
