Drones Are The Next Uber

You read it here first. You will soon be hiring a drone, the same way you hire an Uber. I know that may sound ridiculous today, but that’s exactly what’s going to happen over the next few years. There will be one-seater drones that will be programmed to take you to destinations that you simply don’t want to drive to. Just remember, traffic conditions are getting worse in many cities around the United States.
Ehang, a Chinese drone manufacturer, actually showed off a prototype at CES that was the first autonomous drone for humans. The drone will be preset to take you to the destination you request. All you will have to do is press a button to take off.
The Ehang drone will be able to go up to 11,480 feet. Battery life is is only 23 minutes of flying time. Ehang is hoping to develop a longer lasting battery sometime this year.
The price to build one of the personal drones is slated to be around $200,000 to $300,000. That may turn out to be very affordable considering the business potential.

My Girlfriend Laura
The first time I ever heard of breast cancer was when my mother was diagnosed at the age of 50. It was terrifying. We were very fortunate. After a mastectomy, she was cancer free. She lived another 34 years.
My mother made sure I had routine mammograms at an early age. Today, most young women aren’t required to start mammographies until the age of 40. Naturally, I am very sensitive about early detection. That’s why I recently wrote about the new 3D technology that’s available now.
My girl friend Laura had a double mastectomy earlier this week. I’ve known Laura for decades. She was in charge of special events at HBO Video when my PR agency had the account. Laura has been a senior executive at FOX Sports for many years.
Laura posted her recent journey with breast cancer on Facebook as a reminder to women everywhere to get regular checkups. Most women would have been completely private about the details Laura spelled out. Laura is more interested in saving lives.
We just found out that Laura doesn’t need any further treatment. We are all rejoicing. She is very special. Thank you Laura for allowing me to repost your words.

Smart Toilets
All kidding aside, smart toilets are all the rage. While a number of my friends are installing these new luxury toilets in their homes, to the tune of a few thousand dollars, many of you don’t even know they exist.
Watch this video from a top manufacturer, Toto, which gives you a blow-by-blow (no pun intended) description of what actually takes place when you sit on a smart toilet. Don’t be shy, watch it.
A friend secretly confided to me that ever since he has been using a smart toilet, he feels he has the cleanest rear-end in town and the rest of us are walking around with dirty bottoms. I assured him I use baby wipes and he said, it just doesn’t compare to the sanitary powers of a smart toilet.

Movi, The Video Camera For Live Events
I love taking videos on my iPhone, and sharing them with others. I keep telling myself that I’m going to take an editing course at the Apple Store, so I can make my video productions more interesting.
I will do that eventually, but there is another option. Livestream, the number one live video broadcaster, is introducing a pocket-sized camera, the Movi, which creates videos that look like they were produced from multiple cameras.
It works in conjunction with your iPhone. Android is on the way, too. The Movi, only 2.5 inches tall and weighs 4.6 ounces, can be used with any microphone stand. You can direct the video from your iPhone once you start shooting.
Movi automatically zooms in on points of interest and faces, so all you have to do is just tap your iPhone screen for a closer cut. Obviously, it was designed for live events where there’s lots of action. If you don’t feel like editing your video yourself, Movi can do the job for you by just detecting action points.
It records footage at 4K resolution and includes a built-in microphone. The Movi battery runs only for an hour. For more recording time, you can plug it in. The company also offers the Movi Boost, an accessory with 10 hours of battery life. Movi will retail at $399.

You’ll Be Hearing More About Alphabet

I just finished reading the most interesting story about the founders of Google. They are about announce a shakeup in their company that will not impact us but will allow them to please investors. They are separating the profitable divisions from the experimental ones. The new company is called Alphabet.
You can read all about Larry Page and Sergey Brin in the CNET story I was referring to. However, the part that caught my attention the most was when both Page and Brin said they
“credit their outrageous success to education, but not in the way you might think. They insist the key was Montessori schooling, which relies on a method that emphasizes collaborative learning without tests and grades. Other notable Montessori alumni are Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, the NBA’s reigning MVP.”
That really surprised me. It’s not that I haven’t heard of the Montessori method before, but that they pointed to that experience as the foundation for their creative thinking.
It makes me wonder about how their minds work. We can all use a little of that.
