YouTube Hits 1 Billion Monthly Visitors

It’s difficult to believe that YouTube is just eight years old and is now one of the major communications vehicles in the world. Congratulations, YouTube! You have certainly changed our lives.

As a senior American, I can honestly say that the last few years of my life have been extremely fascinating because of all of the advances in technology. I love when I hear other seniors remark that they are thrilled to be witnessing all of the innovation as well. I wonder why other contemporaries don’t feel as fortunate.

YouTube alone is a wonderment. I use YouTube for everything, from creating my own channel (lwhitman) to researching every imaginable topic. I don’t know why, but I am always amazed that when I type in a topic in the search box, the greatest reference videos appear. I couldn’t ask for better explanations.

Or do you weigh yourself to live? That will be the interesting question you will want to ask yourself when I tell you more about the Smart Body Analyzer. This scale has it all, maybe too much. But it just may be the instrument I personally need to set me straight. “Lois, you need to lose 30 pounds. Your body fat is out of control.” Continue reading

I Wished Happy Birthday to a Dead Person

20130319-194318.jpg

I don’t know what came over me. I actually posted a Happy Birthday to William Oakley on his Facebook page when he has been dead for two years. For those of you who do not know this, Facebook lists the birthday of everyone you are connected to. Most Facebook members check that page every day and send wishes to everyone who has a birthday. It is conceivable that one person could receive hundreds of birthday wishes on his or her special day.

An App for the Detail Obsessed

Many people over 50 think about all the possessions they own, and what they are going to do with them when they decide to downsize. Only the brave are willing to tackle the inventory they own when they are double nickels (55). The rest of us will wait until something drastic happens to face this chore.

The Future of Eyeglasses

20130318-213310.jpg

The minute I saw this idea I said this is for me. I don’t know what eye doctors are going to think about it but boy does this make sense, if it works. In a few years, you may be wearing prescription eyeglasses that you can adjust by just turning a knob. How cool is that? I would personally love that option because for many years, I just don’t feel like I am getting the proper prescriptions. I have progressive glasses and I often feel the bottom prescription was meant for the top and the top for the bottom. I find myself tilting my head in all kinds of directions to get a clear picture. This is true for near and far.

20130317-224718.jpg

Every time we get ready to travel it is the same old routine.

1) Have we been upgraded to first class?

2) Do our coach seats have the extra leg room?

3) What will the weather be like when we take off? Continue reading

Every time you turn around, LEGO has a new tech gizmo. Here is the LEGO paper plane folding machine V2.0.

Even Holland Taylor, who portrays former Democratic Governor of Texas Ann Richards in the play she also wrote, made it her business to note the big change that was happening in the United States during her term. “We are just entering the Information Age that is going to change us forever.”
