Introducing Our Power Broker

Our real estate broker, Howard Margolis, of Douglas Elliman, is definitely one of the top selling and best-known agents in NYC.  Our apartment is on the low-end of his listings. Howard and his team are famous for the magnificent properties they represent.

That’s how we met. A number of years ago, I was looking for a fabulous event space for a press conference. He offered a sensational penthouse in Tudor City. We have been connected ever since.

I thought you would enjoy his recent listing. It was featured tonight on CBS. Click here to view it.

Located in the Trump Tower on Central Park West, this 47th floor condo, with 6,500 sq. ft., is $40 million. It was just renovated for $10 million. Howard and his teammates already sold the penthouse in same building for $33 million.

Listen carefully to the interview. I’m sure I left out some glorious details. Click here.

After 40 Years

We listed our NYC co-op. This is going to be a very emotional journey. There is no explanation as to why now, other than we feel it’s time. We are very fortunate to have The (Howard) Margolis Team of Douglas Elliman representing us.

Howard and I met online a few years ago, when I was searching around for an elaborate apartment to use for a press party. We did the event together in a whopper of a penthouse in Tudor City. We’ve been friendly ever since.

I never thought we would be working together on this project so soon. Eliot and I made the decision a few months ago and now one of the most famous real estate agents in the country is selling the place that has served us so well for decades. Howard was on Million Dollar Listing, NY, last week.

This is not the end for us in NYC. Eliot and I just want a different view.

It was love at first sight. Email love. I met one of the most prominent real estate brokers from Douglas Elliman over email a few weeks ago. I emailed a few of the top real estate agents in New York City because I was looking for a unique space to hold a press reception for one of my clients, Revlon Hair Appliances. Howard Margolis, super agent, was one of three to answer my email.

The reason why we finally hooked up to do this project together was because of the stunning location he offered me. I got really lucky. Out of nowhere, a knight in shining armor answered my cold-call email. I also learned that Howard takes advantage of the digital revolution like no other.

He is constantly marketing his properties in the most unique ways. Watch this video to see one of his newest properties from the rich and famous on Park Avenue.

Some of the pictures below show the mountain of boxes that are in storage waiting to go over to the event. The boxes are filled with wines, snacks. press releases, goody bags, paper goods, plastic ware, coat racks, hangers, tables, table cloths, and press badges.

This is going to be one heck of a home made event from a non-Balabusta.

Let Your Email Do the Walking

20130803-182113.jpgHoward Margolis.

I am writing you from Lisbon, Portugal. We flew here last night with a stopover in Madrid. We are on a two-week holiday. We stay in Lisbon for four days, then start an AMA Waterways River Cruise for seven nights on the Douro River. We finish up in Madrid for a few days.

I was rushing around like crazy to get certain work done so I didn’t have a lot of tedious work to attend to while we were traveling. We have complimentary wireless Internet everywhere we are staying, so I can keep an eye on my work.

Just when I thought I had everything wrapped up before the trip, I received a call in the middle of last week from my El Paso, TX, client saying they wanted to do a press party in late September in NYC for their new line of Revlon hair appliances. They needed us to secure a location ASAP and draft a proposal along with budgets.

I didn’t want to assign this task to anyone else at HWH because they are all loaded up with other deadline work. I am a big believer in blasting out emails to lots of potential sources to ask for help. My idea this time was to get one of the big name real estate brokers in Manhattan to provide us with an extraordinary apartment to hold the event. I wanted to find a very alluring place that would attract the press.

It took a few hours to target the right brokers, another 15 minutes to write the pitch, and then seconds to blast the email request. Within a half hour, I had positive replies from some of the most successful agents in the city including several from TV shows “Million Dollar Listing” and “Selling New York.”

There was one location that intrigued me the most. I immediately answered the email from that power broker who responded. It took a few emails back and forth on Wednesday afternoon to seal the deal followed by a confirmation phone call. Howard Margolis from Douglas Elliman agreed to meet me at the penthouse apartment on Friday seven hours before my flight for Lisbon took off.

I fell in love with the site, we schmoozed for a half hour, agreed to do other projects like this one in the future, and established what I believe will be a long working relationship.

Before email, this task would have taken me days to do and miles of pavement to pound. I may not be a lot of things, but I certainly am the master of email.

Here is the penthouse with terrace I secured, Be sure to click on the arrow below the picture to see the entire extravaganza.

Meet the broker I am working with Howard Margolis.
