Don’t Forget Your Overtime

I just want to make sure you know that YouTube offers extra footage of some of the TV shows you love so much. Both “60 Minutes” and “Real Time with Bill Maher” have segments on YouTube called Overtime which give you informal interviews and a behind the scenes look at the topics of the day.

I don’t know all the TV shows that offer this YouTube feature, but I suggest you do a search. All you have to do is put the name of your favorite TV show in the search bar on YouTube, and then scroll through the segments. You will see the extra options. Enjoy the extras.

I Stand Corrected

YouTube Cut Me Off

I love digitally recording (taping) TV shows, news and features, and sharing them with others. I usually have no problem copying a show off the TV and then transferring the video to YouTube. Then I post the YouTube on social media platforms and DigiDame.

Today I got a big surprise. NBC blocked me. I wanted to share the ever-important #metoo segment on “Meet The Press.” I recorded the seven minute news piece because it clarified what the whole movement is about. Tarana Burke and Alyssa Milano, #metoo originators, gave heartfelt explanations of what they, and women, everywhere, hope to accomplish.

I spent an hour trying to get YouTube to accept my video so I can properly post it here. No luck. NBC finally stopped me. The video posted here comes straight from my camera roll. I hope my raw video works.

Please watch the video. I feel it’s a piece of history that should never be forgotten.

I emailed Meet the Press host Chuck Todd. I asked him to make sure NBC posts the #metoo segment on YouTube so we can all have a professional copy. They posted most of the other segments from this morning. Why did they omit this one?

Is Your Airbnb Hosts Spying On You?

A couple in Toronto recently found a camera inside an alarm clock in their Airbnb rental. It was facing directly toward their bed. According to a number of my friends, who use Airbnb rental quite often, this situation is not that uncommon.

How awful is that?

After realizing that some people are so creepy, I don’t think I will ever feel that comfortable in a hotel either. I will want to check everything, and everyplace, in my room for a camera. I think I would be quite upset if I found one.

Drone Captures Fall

Thank you Justin Mc Farland for posting one of the most gorgeous fall scenes ever on Instagram. Mc Farland created this video off of a drone flying around the Snowbasin Resort in Utah. Wait until you see the colors, not typical fall hues.

Silent Broadcasting

There is a new trend in TV news broadcasting that is going to make you shake your head in disbelief. Even though I am showing you FOX examples, this is true for a few networks.

TV networks are now producing news segments without any hosts. That means no talking, no live spokespeople, and no narrators. Seems crazy? Let me tell you why.

The younger generation watches the news on their electronic devices without any sound. They usually hang out in areas where they can’t hear anything anyway (school cafeteria, gym, the train), so they just watch TV in silence. There are times when they can access closed-captioning, or some kind of corresponding texts.

If they can’t, it doesn’t phase them a bit. They just watch the news in silence. Some of the most observant TV news executives decided to capitalize on this new development. They are now producing news segments with text captioning, and no verbal explanation. No need for human presence on the screen. This new format saves money and gives the kids what they want.

Now You Can Produce Your Own Movie

Before we get to today’s subject, I want to be sure you watched “60 Minutes.” It’s a moment in time, I don’t think you should miss this. Click here.

Now You Can Produce Your Own Movie

https://youtu.be/RxyEKZhVpkk

A company called Yours.co is capable of taking the videos and photos from your smartphone and turn them in to one long presentation that includes music. The content becomes what Yours.co calls a Magic Video.

All you have to do is upload your photos and videos into the company’s app, pay $9.99, and you will receive up to a 30 minute home video. The length of the video depends on the amount of content you give them.

In addition to the video, you will receive a DVD copy for the whole family to watch together.

The company started last year by raising money on Kickstarter. The above video was featured on the crowd funding site so it may be slightly dated.

People With Handicaps Can Now Play Video Games

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MgEijX042K4

I wanted to give you a feel good story for a change. There is a charity that is dedicated to inventing custom gaming setups for people with handicaps. The devices even let people play games with their eyes and breath.

The Ablegamers Charity of West Virginia wants to “break down the barriers of economic and social isolation for children, adults and veterans with disabilities.”

There are hundreds of combinations of devices available.

The average cost of a grant to get someone playing video games is $350. For people with severe physical disabilities, the cost can go as high as $5000 for all the specialized equipment needed.

If you know someone with a handicap who would love to play video games, contact Ablegamers inquiries@AbleGamers.org.

Brush And Floss Before Breakfast

Image: BorthDDS.com

I just finished a writing assignment for Waterpik that I wanted you to know about. It will help you with the color of your teeth. You should be brushing and flossing before breakfast.

Waterpik says it’s very important to remove the bacteria that has built up overnight, and to provide fluoride to the teeth before they are introduced to coffee or orange juice. Fluoride helps make enamel stronger and protects it from acidic food and drink. Brushing before breakfast helps eliminate stains.

The Mayo Clinic adds, “If you’ve consumed anything acidic, you should avoid brushing your teeth for at least 30 minutes. Foods containing citric acid, like oranges, grapefruits and lemons, weaken tooth enamel. Brushing too soon after eating them can damage the enamel in its weakened state.”

So that’s my tip for today.
